Practical guide for small businesses · Costa Brava

Web design and local SEO for small businesses on the Costa Brava

The website that works for a pizzeria may not work for a hair salon or an electrician. Its structure, calls to action and key information should reflect how the business works and what customers need to know before choosing.

A clear foundation for any local business

Your website should explain what you do, where you work and how people can reach you. On mobile, your phone number, WhatsApp, menu, opening times or booking link should be easy to find. Keep your website and Google Business Profile details up to date.

Examples by sector

What each website should make clear

01 · FOOD & DRINK

Restaurants, bars, pizzerias and coffee shops

Make the menu readable on mobile as text, not only as a PDF. Add current opening times, type of food, group options and a clear button to book, order or call. Update allergen and price details when they change. If international visitors come in, translate the essentials and booking steps.

02 · WELLBEING

Hair salons, barbers, beauty and massage studios

Describe each service clearly and explain how to book, with a simple calendar or WhatsApp. Add your location, accessibility information and what visitors should know before arriving. Use genuine photos and credentials.

03 · PROFESSIONALS

Lawyers, property managers and other professionals

Explain what you do, who you help and what happens when someone first contacts you. If you manage properties, say what you look after and how clients can report a problem. Lawyers can explain what to bring to an initial meeting.

04 · EDUCATION

Language schools, tutoring and after-school activities

Explain which subjects and age groups you teach, your timetable, where classes take place and how to ask for a place. Families want to know who leads each activity and what children need to bring. Update schedules before enrolment opens.

05 · TRADES

Electricians, builders, plumbers, painters and renovation trades

Say which jobs you take on, which towns you really cover, whether you handle urgent work and how to request a quote. Photos of real jobs, verifiable credentials and a visible phone number help answer questions. Do not list places you cannot serve or invent an address.

06 · NIGHTLIFE

Nightclubs, music bars and nightlife

Keep the programme, dates, opening times, minimum age, entry rules and ticket or booking link easy to find. Update the calendar when plans change; an expired event date hurts trust.

07 · SHOPS & TOURISM

Shops, boutiques, accommodation and seasonal businesses

A shop or boutique can show what it sells, when it opens and whether customers can order or collect items. Accommodation needs clear service details and an easy way to book. If you work seasonally, prepare opening times before the season and update them when you close.

Languages and seasons

Help people find you and know how to book

You do not need the whole website in a dozen languages. Start with Catalan and Spanish; add English or French if customers actually contact or visit you in those languages. In 2025, Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees together had 8.2 million visitors and 28.4 million overnight stays. Those figures cover both areas, not Costa Brava alone, and they do not mean every business will get more customers.

Every business is different

A website built for you, not another off-the-shelf template

I first look at what the business offers, who searches for it and which next step is easiest for customers. Then we choose the right pages and tools. A salon may need appointments; a restaurant, its menu and bookings; a trade business, accurate service areas and an easy way to request a quote.

Useful information before booking

For a restaurant, the menu, seasonal opening hours and an easy booking route can be central to the website. Accommodation providers and tourism activities need to explain options, booking conditions and directions. WhatsApp helps with enquiries; a multilingual website helps visitors who need information in Catalan, Spanish or English. We review Google Business Profile and its consistency with the website so visitors find matching details.
