Swelling and oedema can have many different causes, so lymphatic drainage is not always appropriate.
Not all swelling or oedema is suitable for lymphatic drainage. Infection, suspected thrombosis, decompensated heart failure and other clinical situations require healthcare assessment and may contraindicate the technique.
